how to increase traffic to my website for free

Increasing traffic to your website for free all begins with the words typed into the Google search box.

Keyword research is one of the most important and high returning activities to ensure an increasing stream of visitors to your website.

Ranking for the right keywords can make or break your website. Nailing keyword research will allow you to learn which terms and phrases to target and what your customers are searching for.

It is not only about just getting traffic to your website but about getting the right kind of traffic.

With keyword research you can produce content that your audience are actively seeking. There has never been such a low barrier to entry in understanding what your customers want in any niche like there is today.

Let me show you how to increase traffic to your website for free through nailing keyword research.

All you have to do is take these keywords, and apply them to your marketing campaigns using the keyword success formula:

Relevant Keyword => Relevant Content = SUCCESS ($$$$)

Why are keywords important?

Because keywords are your path to rankings in Google.

Keywords are also the actual search terms that people enter into search engines like Google. So knowing what they are helps you understand what your potential customers need and are looking for.

The knowledge of these actual search terms can help inform the strategy of how to grow your traffic and online business.

The key to increase traffic to your website for free

There are millions and millions of keywords out there, but there is one mistake that prevents most marketers from being successful – they go after the most competitive, high traffic keywords.

This is a HUGE mistake as these keywords are extremely difficult to rank under and you end up getting only trickles of traffic. And if you have a new site you won’t get any traffic at all!

The key to being successful is to go after the low hanging fruit i.e. keywords with very little competition. If you understand how to find these types of keywords, you can get endless amounts of 1st page Google rankings within any niche. That means endless amounts of FREE traffic.

So a low hanging fruit keyword is in essence a low competition keyword. Moving along with our fruit tree analogy, the fruit at the bottom of the tree is a bit small (it gets less traffic) but there are many more of them and there isn’t as much competition.

This is in stark contrast to the fruit at the top of free which most people are naturally competing for. These keywords have very high traffic but it takes time and much more effort to get them.

The idea behind this strategy is get rankings on search engines, for free!

This strategy is particularly important if you are starting a brand new website as it will be even harder for you to rank for more competitive terms.

So when starting out, this is your go to strategy – to target low competition keywords. But this strategy isn’t only for those with a brand new website, it can be used over and over again to gain an endless amount of traffic.

In this post, I want to walk you through this low hanging fruit strategy and help you come up with a list of keywords you should be targeting.

I want to show you that keyword research isn’t hard and can actually be fun. And that it is entirely within your grasp to increase traffic to your website for free and grow your business.

Step 1: Make a list of important topics relevant to your business.

To start this process, think about the topics you want to rank for in terms of topic buckets.

Get out a piece of paper and try to come up with about 5-10 topic buckets. We will use these topic buckets to help direct our keyword research later in the process.

If you’re a blogger, what are the main topics you blog about most frequently? Perhaps you already have categories listed in your blog.

For example for an internet marketing blog you might have topics like, “SEO,” “Email Marketing” for example.

Make sense?

Step 2: Use a keyword research tool to identify high traffic, low competition keywords

Next, use a keyword tool to uncover the three most important metrics when looking for a “low hanging fruit” keyword

1. Monthly Searches – This is the traffic number you want to focus on. If you are going for natural rankings, then ANY traffic is a good amount of traffic. The more keywords you rank for, the more your traffic will grow.

2. QSR (Quoted Search Results) – This is the ULTIMATE competition metric and ONLY the Jaaxy keyword tool provides this key metric. This metric tells you the exact number of competing pages on Google, Yahoo and Bing there are under that EXACT search term. The higher the QSR, the more competition. If you are just starting out, aim for under 100. If you have a more established site, then you can aim for a QSR under 300 to get a good change of getting ranked. There are millions of these keywords out there and this metric makes it plain which keywords to focus on.

3. SEO Power – This determines whether or not a keyword is a good candidate for getting SEO rankings. If you can get rankings, you get more traffic, more click and can earn money online! This metric takes into account the traffic, the nature of the keyword, competition, and the keyword quality. The higher the SEO power the easiest it is to rank for this keyword.

These are the three most important metrics that will allow you to sift out the low hanging fruit keywords to target.

How does the keyword tool help you identify low hanging fruit?

I try to get the keyword is a H1 heading, in my first paragraph and as an ‘alt tag’ in one picture in my post.

Other than that, just write naturally. Scattering the keyword around your post used to help with ranking but not anymore 🙂

Aha. Shan, you have cleared my understanding. It is such an important issue.
I can see how the “low hanging fruit” can be so delicious.
Does the Avg need to be very high as well. I assume “Avg” means average visitors to the sites.
Is that per week or month? or?
I was having a play with the free version of Jaaxy and you are right, it is almost addictive, searching for the right keywords.
