Extra money is great because of how it can dramatically change our lives.

It could mean:

  • Paying off your debts faster,
  • Leaving the job you hate,
  • Finally, taking the holiday your deserve, or
  • Paying with the bills so you don’t have to live paycheck to paycheck.

And making some extra cash does not have to be complicated or difficult.

If you schedule in an hour a day to make some extra cash, it can make a massive difference to your income overtime.

Below are the best 15 ways to make an extra income, the easy way. No matter who you are or what your skills are, you will find something on this list that will work for you.

Ways To Make an Extra Income Online Fast

First off, I’m going to be honest. You will have to put in some work to earn extra money online.

While it doesn’t have to be hard, money isn’t going to just fall into your lap if you don’t take any action.

It’s sad but true – only scams promise big money for no effort. And you don’t want to fall victim to those.

So that disclaimer aside, here are some simple ways to make money online!

#1: Test websites

Do you love leaving reviews and sharing your opinion on new ads, products or websites?

If the answer is yes, then this could be the option for you.

Website owners want to know what people’s first impressions of their website are.  They know that first impressions are everything and so they are willing to pay for testers to ensure that their site is attractive and easy for the visitors to navigate.

All you need as a website tester is a good internet connection and a laptop.

Websites like UserTesting.com pay $10 per test via PayPal. Each test usually takes around 20 minutes and involves completing a set of tasks and recording yourself speaking your thoughts aloud.

Doing the math, that works out to a possible $30 an hour which is not too bad at all for checking out websites!

#2: Get paid to take surveys

Taking surveys online is an easy way of making extra cash. My personal favorites are Swagbucks and Opinion Outpost.

If you are interested in taking surveys only, then I would recommend Opinion Outpost. They have a much pay rate than other survey companies and they offer a pretty consistent stream of surveys straight to your inbox.

This is something you can do while watching TV or during your lunch hour.

With Swagbucks, the surveys aren’t quite as good but there are many other ways to make money with this platform. Read my full review to find out the best way to make money with Swagbucks.

I must note that you won’t get rich filling in surveys but you can make some good pocket money from sporadic and easy effort.

To give you an idea, I recently managed to earn $10 from filling in 2 surveys. That took me a total of 30-35 minutes in total, which works out to about $5/ hour.

Not mind-blowing but not too bad for making some cash while watching TV.

#3: Drive people around

Ways To Make an Extra Income Uber Driver

If own a car, you can drive people around in your spare time or perhaps you can pick someone up on your way to and from work?

This can be a great and easy way of earning the extra cash.

The best companies to sign up with are Uber and Lyft.

All you have to do is be a bit smart about the trips you accept. Just keep in mind the distance and the amount of gas you’ll need before you accept a job.

#4: Deliver Food

If you have a car but don’t like the idea of driving strangers around then you might prefer to deliver food.

Companies like UberEATS or apps like GrubHub or Postmates will give you a chance to deliver food in the evening or at weekends to earn some extra cash on the side.

#5: Instagram Marketing

Ways To Make an Extra Income Instagram

Are you on Instagram all the time and have a bit of a following?

If so, you could have an opportunity to do some marketing and get paid for it.

Did you know that 25-year-old Liz Eswein charges a fee to various big brands for taking the photos she posts on her account @NewYorkCity? She also gets an additional $1 per like.

That’s not too bad at all considering most of her photos get over 20,000 likes!

If you do the math, that is a pretty decent payout!

Of course, not all of us have that big a following on Instagram but no worries, you can still make money from this online opportunity.

I have friends who get hundreds not thousands of likes but that doesn’t stop them from marketing clothes from local boutiques in our area.

They gets a unique code to give their followers a 10% discount on all purchases. The clothes boutiques then pay them a commission each time they bring in a sale.

#6: Master Matched Betting

When I first heard about Matched Betting, I assumed it involved gambling but boy was I dead wrong.

Matched Betting is actually a completely risk-free method of systematically making money from free bets and incentives offered by bookmakers.

For example, bookmakers often offer sign up bonuses for new members if they make a few bets on their site.

So what you then do is make a few bets for both sides to win the tennis match.

We know that one side is going to lose. So let’s say you lose £10 per bet which totals £30 for three bets. But making those bets means you have now unlocked a £100 sign on bonus. That results in a £70 profit.

You then rinse & repeat on other sites.

Sites like OddsMonkey offer tutorials and tools that teach absolute newbies to make money online consistently using the Matched Betting method. And their users on average make £900 a month.

That’s not too bad really.

#7: Be a Freelancer

Working online can be a great way to earn a living. If you have skills in any of the following areas there is probably a market out there that would pay for your skills:

  • Writing,
  • Graphic design,
  • Transcribing,
  • Accounting,
  • Web design,
  • Marketing,

I think you might be surprised at the demand out there for various skills.

The best thing about freelancing is that you dictate your own hours and you can work from anywhere.

You can either start by working your existing network, maybe its contacts from your field of work.

If you want to reach a wider audience, then you can check out Upwork and Freelancer.

However, I must warn that the competition is pretty stiff on these sites and often you are competing with people in countries who can afford to charge a lot less than you do.

#8: Online Data Entry Jobs

Ways To Make an Extra Income Data Entry

The most popular (and legitimate) data entry job sites are Amazon’s Mechnical Turk and Clickworker.

You can sign up for Amazon’s Mechanical Turk here to perform ‘HITs’ i.e. tasks like:

• Blog comments

• Transcription

• Short editing and writing jobs

• Keyword searches

• Photo captioning and tagging

As you scroll through the available task, you will give you an estimated time for completion and a brief description.

It’s a good idea to try out various tasks to get a good idea of how long each one will take you. This will allow you to ‘do the math’ to work out which tasks is more worth your while.

Click worker, is fast gaining popularity and is very similar to Amazon’s Mechnical Turk where you log on and complete small tasks for a fee.

I personally found data entry jobs great when I was a new mom and didn’t have much head space for any more complicated than simple tasks.

#9: Sell your stuff

Make a list of everything you know, it can be anything from your work experience to your hobbies.

Have a look on platforms like:

  • Udemy
  • SkillShare
  • Teachable.com

You can have a look on there to see what kind of online courses people are offering.

It’s never been easier to share everything you know. And you don’t have to be an expert on a particular topic to make money from an online course. You don’t even need to have the right qualifications. As long as you know more than your potential students on the topic, they will pay to learn from you!

#13: Become a virtual assistant

Virtual assistants can earn between $35-$50 per hour from home and can dictate their own hours.

With the rise of online businesses, there is also the increased need for virtual assistants who help businesses with emails, customer service, blogging updates, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest management.

#14: Your Own YouTube Channel

The top “YouTubers” can make millions each year. Take this 6 year old kid Ryan for example, he makes $11 million a year reviewing toys on YouTube.

One of the most popular type of YouTube video are how-tos or unboxing videos (where you open a product for your reviewers). There are so many niches that the millions of people who visit YouTube every day are into.

If you have something of value to share and deliver your message in an engaging way, there is probably a ready audience out there for you to build a solid income stream from views. You could also use your free tutorials to point viewers towards paid offers.

For example, you might provide high level personal finance advice for free but offer an upsell of personalize advice for a fee.

So how do you make money with YouTube?

  1. Set up your YouTube channel.
  2. Upload videos consistently: In order to build an audience you need to upload video regularly that add value to your potential audience.
  3. Spread the word about your video on social media: Twitter, Facebook or you can even embed them in your blog or website.
  4. Respond to comments from viewers: Remember engagement turns viewers into fans.
  5. Monetize your YouTube videos to include ads: More views means more revenue!

Have a look on YouTube for your favorite YouTube celebrities and note what makes each of them successful.

Then try to replicate their formula while being your authentic unique self.

Who is your favorite YouTuber and what about them draws you to watch their videos?

I wonder about payment options of surveys. I am in Europe and don’t have a PayPal account and that really sucks. So getting payments is a bit difficult for me. It also takes too much time as well. When will I have money when I completed surveys? Is cheque an option?

    • Reply Shan May 7, 2018 at 9:00 pm

      Hi Furkan

That’s a good point, and paypal is not the only way to get paid out for surveys. Swagbucks for example does pay out with giftcards as well.

You can select from various merchants and Amazon vouchers for example come in Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk vouchers.

Here is a full list of rewards that Swagbucks offers.

Shan, I like your list of 15 things to make money and I’m sure the list could go on a on. I’ve never hear of UserTesting which is definitely something I’m going to look into. On the point about selling your stuff, I would also add OfferUp for selling your things online. I find that while OfferUp is similar to Craigslist and letgo, I think it’s actually better and easier to use. Have you heard of/used OfferUp?

      Hi Papi

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Yes, UserTesting is one that pays pretty decently. Do let me know how you go with it, would love to hear your experience!

Oh cool, I can’t say I’ve tried OfferUp before. Might have to give it a good the next time I have something to sell. Thanks for the recommendation!

    Hello Shan,
I have tried taking surveys, selling photos and being a freelancer, the only way that makes me extra $100 is being a freelancer on Fiverr. However, I think starting a YouTube channel can really make me more than $100 if I know how to monetize my traffic. Me and my friend just started a YouTube channel last week, I hope everything will go well.
I’m also curious about creating online courses, I will definitely give it a try!
Keep up the good work!! 🙂

      Hi Daniel

That’s so awesome that you have gotten stuck in and are trying all the ways to make extra money online.

Yes, my husband has recently picked quite a specific niche on YouTube recorded a few videos and he has been blown away by how many views he’s gotten. The affiliate income he’s received from a few videos was much  more than $100. Think the key with YouTube is to find a specific niche audience and answer questions they are asking 🙂

Good luck would love to hear how you go!
